Anthony Yanez

Chief Meteorologist

Chief meteorologist Anthony Yanez forecasts weather weekday evenings on KPRC 2 News at 5, 6 and 10. 
 
He joined the KPRC 2 News team in 2003 just as Hurricane Claudette was ready to slam the Texas coast. In 2015, he joined KNBC in Los Angeles—and after six years—he returned to KPRC 2. 
 
Anthony was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Mass Communications from the University of New Mexico. He earned his broadcast meteorology certificate from Mississippi State University.
He is also a published author of the children’s book: A Wild Ride on the Water Cycle: A Jake & Alice Adventure, A Tale of Two Water Drops.
 
In addition, Anthony is a sports enthusiast and has competed in cycling races, triathlons, and half marathons. He also enjoys skiing and golf. 
 
Anthony loves sharing his knowledge of meteorology and making it easy to understand. Since 2003, he has visited schools around the city to show children the science behind weather. His demonstrations include experiments, demonstrations and even a portable green screen so the students can do the weather live! His work can be seen here: www.click2houston.com/weatherlab.   
 
Anthony holds seals of approval with prominent weather organizations including the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). He also served as a member of the AMS Station Scientist Committee from 2019-2023.
