‘I wish he was still here:’ Balloon release remembering Damon Price, man killed at Houston Farmers Market

“We’d all like to have justice. You know, but it won’t bring him back.”

HOUSTON – One week after Damon Price was shot and killed while working at the Houston Farmers Market, those who loved him most remembered his life.

Price, 36, was shot after confronting two teens who were allegedly trying to steal a golf cart from the Houston Heights business early last Thursday morning.

At Tidwell Park one week later, more than 150 people gathered to release a balloon into the sky as they said one final goodbye to Damon.

“I just want to say that, Damon. He was loved,” said one of the many who came forward to speak.

There was family, friends and the community who loved Damon like family.

“He was my coworker at the farmers market,” one woman said. “I’m gonna continue to be here for the family.”

While fighting back tears, they all released blue and white balloons into the sky around 6:45 p.m., just as the sun was setting.

“I haven’t quit thinking about him since this happened, but I’ll go ahead on,” said Damon’s father, Leo Price Sr. “And we’d all like to have justice. You know, but it won’t bring him back, but we’d like to have it.”

A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody and referred for charges in connection to Price’s death, the Houston Police Department said.
